Civil Rights and the Experiential Museum Experience

Deborah Richardson will share lessons learned from creating a one of a kind institution, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, that connects the American Civil Rights Movement to modern day human rights, and on the lessons learned in creating a story telling, experiential museum.

Deborah Richardson has served as the Chief Program Officer of the Women’s Funding Network, Founding Executive Director of the Fulton County Juvenile Youth Fund, CEO of the Atlanta Women’s Foundation, and the Executive Vice President of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Her expertise includes fundraising for capital, operational, and special projects; program development and evaluation; board and staff development; strategic planning, and financial oversight; along with marketing, and communications.

In 2017, she created Deborah Richardson & Associates, whose practice area is building infrastructure of organizations that address the systemic conditions of marginalized communities. She is currently coordinating the International Human Trafficking Institute’s three-year strategic campaign whose vision is the end labor and sexual exploitation by leveraging the collective efforts of local, national, and global entities.

Richardson has a Bachelor’s of Political Science and Women’s Studies from Georgia State University, a Master’s of Leadership from St. Mary’s College in California, and is a doctoral candidate at Union Institute &University in Public Policy and Social Change with a specialization in the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Studies and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies.
