Summer Series Webinar: Reproductive Injustice: Racism, Pregnancy, and Premature Birth

The talk will focus on Dr. Davis’s recent research and book, Reproductive Injustice: Racism, Pregnancy, and Premature Birth, which explores the issue of premature birth among Black women in the United States.  Black women have the highest rates of preterm birth in the U.S. and in some places, such as New York City, are 4 times more likely to die of a pregnancy-related cause. Davis will discuss the political implications of centering Black women’s experiences to understand how racism leaks into medical encounters. Davis’s book is a Finalist for the 2020 PROSE Award in the Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology category, given by the Association of American Publishers.
